Woman killed after rejecting marriage proposal in Bengaluru

A 23-year-old woman, identified as Anjali, was allegedly stabbed to death by her boyfriend, Rajeev, after she turned down his marriage proposal in Bengaluru on Sunday evening, police reported on Monday. The incident occurred on Pipeline Road in Mahalakshmi Layout, where Rajeev had called Anjali for a dinner meeting.

According to police, Rajeev and Anjali were colleagues and had been in a relationship for the past four years. During the meeting, Rajeev again proposed marriage, but Anjali refused, leading to a heated argument. Rajeev then allegedly stabbed her in the neck with a knife. Anjali was rushed to a hospital but succumbed to her injuries.

Family opposed marriage due to accused's criminal record

Citing preliminary investigation, a police officer stated that Anjali's family was aware of her relationship with Rajeev but had opposed the marriage because he was named in at least three criminal cases. Following her family's advice, Anjali had started distancing herself from Rajeev, but he allegedly continued to pressure her to marry him.

The officer said, "We received a murder complaint at around 10.20 pm on Sunday within the limits of the Mahalakshmi Layout police station. We have registered a case and are investigating." He added that the accused has been taken into custody. "They knew each other. We are verifying all the facts," the officer noted.

Arrest and investigation underway

Police arrested Rajeev, a resident of KP Agrahara, and registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. The investigation is ongoing to determine the exact sequence of events and gather further evidence. Anjali's body has been sent for post-mortem examination.

This tragic incident highlights the dangers of relationship violence and the importance of heeding family concerns about a partner's criminal background. Authorities urge anyone facing similar threats to seek help immediately.
