In a swift response to a domestic violence complaint, police in West Champaran district arrested a 47-year-old man for possessing an illegal firearm and allegedly assaulting his wife. The incident occurred in Mahnagani village under the Mufassil police station area of Bettiah on Thursday.
Wife's Helpline Call Triggers Police Action
The arrest followed a desperate plea for help from the accused's wife. Tired of enduring daily beatings and threats, she contacted the Dial 112 emergency helpline. In her complaint, she informed the authorities that her husband, Ramesh Paswan, not only assaulted her regularly but had also hidden a gun under their bed, causing her to fear for her life.
Illegal Weapon Recovered During Raid
Acting on the complaint and instructions from senior officers, a police team was immediately formed. Mufassil Station House Officer (SHO) Samrat Singh stated that the team raided Paswan's residence. During the search, officers successfully recovered a country-made pistol. Based on this discovery, Ramesh Paswan was taken into custody and booked under the stringent Arms Act.
"My husband used to beat and threaten me every day. He even kept a gun under his pillow. I was afraid he might kill me, so I called Dial 112 and reported the incident," said the victim, Sunita Devi, expressing her relief after the police intervention. She confirmed that the police took prompt action, arresting her husband and seizing the weapon.
