The Bihar government, led by the BJP-NDA coalition, has initiated the process to appoint Test cricketers Akash Deep and Mukesh Kumar as deputy superintendents of police (DySP) under the state's outstanding sportspersons recruitment policy, an official confirmed on Saturday.
Recommendation by General Administration Department
The General Administration Department (GAD) has forwarded the names of both cricketers to the home department for recruitment to the post of DySP in Pay Level-9. The recommendation follows the Bihar Outstanding Sportspersons Direct Appointment (Amendment) Rules, 2026, after a selection committee for meritorious sportspersons cleared the proposal.
Background of the Cricketers
Mukesh Kumar, a fast bowler from Gopalganj district, made his international debut in the Caribbean in 2023. Akash Deep, a bowler from Rohtas district, made his Test debut in 2024. Both were part of the Indian cricket team that won the gold medal at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, in 2022.
Conditions for Appointment
The appointments are subject to verification of educational, residential, and other certificates, along with character and antecedent checks. Additionally, the candidates must remain active in competitive sports for five years after the appointment, as mandated by the recruitment rules, the official added.
