An FIR has been registered against Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Jaideep Bihani and several others at Jawahar Nagar police station in Jaipur on Wednesday. The case, filed under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, pertains to the alleged assault and wrongful confinement of an assistant engineer of the Rajasthan Urban Infrastructure Development Project.

Incident Details

According to the complaint lodged by assistant engineer Jaganlal Bairwa, the incident occurred on April 30 at the MLA Seva Kendra in Sriganganagar. Bairwa stated that he was summoned to the centre by Public Health Engineering Department Assistant Engineer Krishan Dhariwal, who informed him that the MLA wished to discuss ongoing RUIDP works in the city.

The complainant alleged that upon arrival at the office, accompanied by two representatives of the Larsen & Toubro project team, he was assaulted by the MLA and his supporters. He claimed that caste-based slurs were used against him, and he was beaten with fists, sticks, and pipes. Bairwa further stated that he sustained an eye injury during the assault.

Allegations of Wrongful Confinement and Threats

The FIR also alleges that the complainant and the two accompanying officials were confined inside the office. They were reportedly threatened with weapons and pressured regarding the ongoing city project worth Rs 555 crore. Additionally, the complainant claimed that government documents were snatched and destroyed during the incident.

Named in the FIR are MLA Jaideep Bihani, PHED AEN Krishan Dhariwal, Manish Garg, Krishan Gopal, Banty Balmiki, Jagdish Ghodela, Dharmender Sihag, Sunil Nayak, and Sandeep Sherewala, along with 15 to 20 unidentified persons.

Legal Action and Investigation

Police registered the case on May 6 under sections related to assault, wrongful confinement, obstruction in public duty, and criminal intimidation under the BNS, along with provisions of the SC/ST Act. The FIR notes that the complainant initially approached the police through the Superintendent of Police office on May 1, but further proceedings were delayed as he went to Jaipur for treatment and medical examination.

A senior official stated, "The investigation has been handed over to Deputy Superintendent of Police Vishnu Kumar Khatri of the SC/ST investigation cell, Sriganganagar."
