Narmadapuram: Police in Narmadapuram claim to have solved the murder of BJP worker and dhaba owner Sachin Rajput within 24 hours, arresting a relative who allegedly killed him over suspicion of an affair with his wife.
The accused, Yogendra alias Yogi Gurjar, 30, of Sehore district, allegedly lured Sachin to an isolated canal culvert near Rani Pipariya in Sohagpur on the night of June 17 and shot him in the head.
Sachin, owner of Rajput Dhaba near Mahua village on Pipariya Road, was at his eatery when Yogendra took him away on a motorcycle. When he did not return, family members and staff searched for him and alerted police.
Using technical surveillance and mobile location data, police traced Sachin’s last location to the canal area, about 1 km from the Pipariya-Narmadapuram state highway. Around 3 am, his body was found in a culvert on the Pondhi-Panjra road with a gunshot wound to the head.
The killing triggered protests in Sohagpur on Wednesday. Residents blocked a road and demanded immediate arrests. The protest ended after SP Sai Krishna Thota assured action.
Police said Yogendra suspected Sachin of having a relationship with his wife and planned the murder. He took Sachin to a secluded spot on the pretext of a meeting before shooting him.
A country-made pistol, motorcycle, mobile phone and the clothes worn by the accused have been seized. Sachin was an active BJP worker and a close associate of Sohagpur BJP MLA Vijaypal Singh.
