A Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) worker was allegedly shot and injured by a fellow party member in the Mehndiganj area under Bazarkhala police station limits on Saturday night, according to police officials.
Incident Details
The victim, identified as 35-year-old Shyam Chetan Tiwari, a resident of Mehndiganj who runs a photography studio in the Bazarkhala area, sustained a gunshot wound near the hip joint. He was immediately rushed to the Trauma Centre, where he is currently undergoing medical treatment. His condition is reported to be stable.
Identification of the Accused
Deputy Commissioner of Police (West Zone) Kamlesh Dixit stated that authorities examined CCTV footage from the locality, which led to the identification of the accused as 25-year-old Vaibhav Bajpai, also a resident of the same area and allegedly associated with the BJYM. "Based on CCTV footage and local inputs, the accused has been detained and is being questioned to ascertain the motive," the DCP said.
Possible Motive
Police sources indicated that preliminary findings suggest the incident stemmed from an ongoing dispute between the two men over the installation of political hoardings in the area. The firearm used in the incident was found to be illegal and has been seized by the police. Authorities are further investigating the matter to uncover any additional details.
Aftermath and Security Measures
Following the incident, BJYM workers along with local residents demanded strict action against the accused. As a precautionary measure, a large police force was deployed in the area to maintain law and order and prevent any potential escalation of violence.
