Bodybuilder Pays Ultimate Price for Defending Women's Dignity
A 26-year-old professional bodybuilder from Rohtak lost his life in a brutal attack after he confronted a group of men who were allegedly harassing women at a wedding ceremony in Bhiwani. The tragic incident occurred on Friday night and culminated in the young man's death on Saturday despite medical efforts to save him.
The Fateful Wedding Visit
Rohit Dhankhar, a resident of Humayunpur village, had traveled to Bhiwani with his friend Jatin to attend the wedding of Jatin's relative. The purpose of their visit was to offer 'shagun' at the celebration on Friday. According to family members, the situation turned tense when a baraat from Tigadana village arrived at the wedding venue late at night.
Some men from the wedding procession reportedly began misbehaving with women present at the function. Rohit, witnessing the harassment, stepped in to warn the men against their inappropriate behavior. This intervention led to an initial altercation, after which the harassers temporarily walked away from the scene.
The Brutal Attack at Railway Crossing
After the wedding ceremonies concluded, Rohit and Jatin began their journey back home in their car. Their trip was interrupted when they stopped at a railway crossing. It was at this location that the horrific attack unfolded.
Family members described how approximately 20 armed men surrounded their vehicle. The attackers were carrying sticks and other weapons. Both friends attempted to escape the violent ambush. While Jatin managed to break free and run to safety, Rohit was caught by the assailants.
The attackers subjected Rohit to a merciless beating using sticks and rods. Family members who later saw his condition revealed the extent of the violence, stating "There wasn't a single part of his body without injury marks."
Medical Efforts and Tragic Outcome
After the attackers fled the scene, Jatin returned with help and rushed Rohit to a local hospital. Given the critical nature of his injuries, doctors referred him to PGIMS in Rohtak for advanced medical care.
Despite night-long efforts by medical professionals at the institute, Rohit succumbed to his injuries on Saturday. The severe trauma he sustained during the attack proved fatal despite the best attempts to save him.
Police Investigation and Family's Anguish
Bhiwani police officials visited PGIMS after receiving information about the incident. Based on the complaint filed by Rohit's family, authorities conducted a postmortem examination. Police have confirmed that further investigation into the matter is currently underway.
The family is devastated by their loss. Rohit's brother-in-law Ravi Khassa and uncle Satish Dhanakhar have demanded the harshest possible punishment for the assailants. They characterized the incident as a "planned murder" and emphasized that Rohit had sacrificed his life while standing up for the dignity of women.
A Promising Career Cut Short
Rohit Dhankhar was not just an ordinary fitness enthusiast but a professional bodybuilder of considerable accomplishment. He worked as a trainer at the Gymkhana Club in Rohtak, where he guided and inspired other fitness aspirants.
His family revealed that Rohit had achieved international recognition in his field, having won two gold medals in 2018 at an international competition. His achievements were significant enough to earn him recognition from then Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, who honored him during the Independence Day ceremony that same year.
The tragic death of this young, accomplished bodybuilder has raised serious questions about public safety and the risks faced by those who intervene to protect others from harassment. As the investigation continues, the family and community mourn the loss of a man who stood up for what was right, paying the ultimate price for his courage.
