The excise department in Buxar foiled a smuggling attempt on Saturday when a large consignment of foreign liquor was discovered hidden beneath crates of mangoes during a vehicle inspection at the Veer Kunwar Singh checkpost.
Seizure Details
Excise Superintendent Ashraf Jamal reported that a truck loaded with mangoes was stopped on suspicion. Upon inspection, officials found a layer of rotten mangoes covering cartons of foreign liquor concealed underneath.
A total of 325 cartons of various liquor brands were recovered, measuring 2,871.72 litres and valued at approximately Rs 34.46 lakh. The consignment was being transported from Chandigarh to Muzaffarpur.
Arrest and Investigation
The truck was seized and the driver, Ravi Kumar (27), a resident of Ram Sahar Nand village in Solan district of Himachal Pradesh, was taken into custody. The raid was conducted under the supervision of Kundan Kumar, inspector-in-charge of Prohibition at the checkpost.
Jamal confirmed that an FIR has been registered under the Excise Act, and further investigation is ongoing.
