In a major crackdown at the Central Jail in Goindwal Sahib, Punjab, authorities seized a significant haul of prohibited items and narcotics on Wednesday. The operation, conducted by jail staff, uncovered multiple packets suspected to have been thrown into the prison premises from outside.

Recovered Items Include Mobile Phones and Tobacco Products

According to Additional Superintendent of Jail Jaswant Singh, the recovered items included 11 mobile phones, 668 bundles of bidis, 329 packets of tobacco, 67 packets of Cool Lip, 47 packets of cigarettes, 12 lighters, data cables, handsets, and heater springs. The contraband was found scattered in different parts of the prison, indicating a coordinated attempt to smuggle goods into the facility.

Rise in Smuggling Incidents at Punjab Jails

Investigating officers Angrej Singh and Pargat Singh confirmed that a case has been registered against unidentified persons in connection with the recovery. The incident highlights a growing trend of drug packets and other illegal substances being thrown into jails from outside, a problem that has reportedly increased in recent months. The authorities are now probing how the packets entered the premises and who was responsible for the attempted delivery.
