Chandigarh Police Book 10 for Abetment to Suicide After Man Takes His Life
Chandigarh police have registered a case against ten individuals. The charges include abetment to suicide. This action follows the tragic death of a man in Maulijagran. He allegedly took his own life after facing severe harassment.
Family Alleges Harassment Over Court Marriage
According to the police complaint, the incident stems from a court marriage. Vinod, a resident of Maulijagran, filed the report. He stated that his elder brother, Dharampal, lived separately in a rented accommodation in the same area.
Vinod explained that on December 23, 2025, their neighbor's daughter married his nephew, Kushal. The couple opted for a court marriage. Following this event, tensions escalated dramatically.
The complainant named several individuals in his statement. They include Mima, Manju, Lakhan, Raj, Kala, Salim, Adi, Sameer, Rinku, and Rittik. Vinod alleged that these people blamed his family for the marriage.
He claimed the accused attempted to attack his family members. Due to continuous threats, his brothers and their children had to leave their home. They stayed away for several days to ensure their safety.
Alleged Harassment Leads to Tragedy
During this period of fear, Dharampal faced intense harassment. The accused allegedly subjected him to intimidation. Vinod stated this relentless pressure forced his brother to end his life.
The situation turned even more violent on the day Dharampal died. Family members who gathered at the scene faced another attack. Vinod alleged that Mima, Kala, Mima's wife, Lakhan, his wife, Riku, Adi, Hrithik, Salim, and Raj, along with associates, pelted stones at them.
This stone-pelting was not an isolated incident. Vinod reported it had happened repeatedly over the past several days. The attacks even caused damage to a parked car in the locality.
Protest and Police Action
Distraught family members staged a protest outside the Maulijagran police station on Wednesday. They demanded immediate action against the accused. The protest highlighted their anguish and call for justice.
Police officials took note of the complaint. They conducted a verification of the preliminary facts. After their assessment, they registered a formal case.
The case charges the ten named persons with abetment to suicide. Authorities have initiated a thorough investigation into the matter. They are examining all aspects of the allegations and the events leading to the tragedy.
This incident has shaken the Maulijagran community. It underscores the severe consequences of harassment and social pressure. The police investigation will now determine the full extent of culpability.
