Police Aide Faces Corruption Charges in Sensitive Case
In a significant development, Rohtak police have submitted a comprehensive 17-page chargesheet against exemptee assistant sub-inspector Sushil Kumar, who was previously deployed with former Rohtak Range inspector general of police Y Puran Kumar. The case has gained additional sensitivity following IGP Y Puran Kumar's alleged suicide on October 7, where he cited caste-based discrimination by senior officers.
Digital Evidence Reveals Extortion Network
According to the chargesheet filed on November 22 in the court of additional district and sessions judge Kapil Rathi, investigators have uncovered substantial digital evidence linking Sushil Kumar to illegal activities. The evidence includes mobile call records, WhatsApp call logs, and transaction-related clues that establish a pattern of demanding money from individuals involved in disputes or pending complaints.
The investigation revealed that Sushil Kumar specifically targeted vulnerable individuals, promising them favorable police action or "support" in their cases in exchange for monetary compensation. Police have cited forensic science laboratory reports that confirm his communication with victims, including a liquor trader who initially filed the complaint.
Audio Recordings Provide Crucial Evidence
The chargesheet contains detailed references to audio recordings that became pivotal evidence in the case. On July 9, Sushil visited the liquor contractor's office at Sector 1 in Rohtak, and his regular communications with the contractor were verified through FSL analysis. Additional recordings captured conversations between the contractor's aide Jai Bhagwan and another individual named Bansal, discussing financial commitments to "Bhai Sahab."
In one particularly damning recording, Sushil is heard pressing Bansal to fulfill financial commitments that were reportedly less than the originally agreed amount. The investigation determined that Sushil demanded money in exchange for providing security protection from other liquor contractors and potential threats from gangsters.
Investigation Techniques and Findings
Police employed multiple investigative approaches, including obtaining voice samples from Sushil Kumar on November 1 when he was brought to court on a production warrant. These samples were sent to FSL Madhuban in Karnal on November 4 for analysis and comparison with recorded evidence.
During searches of premises connected to Sushil Kumar, authorities seized numerous electronic devices, mobile phones, and other materials. Analysis of this digital evidence helped investigators reconstruct a detailed timeline of the alleged extortion activities. Interestingly, the investigation also revealed that Sushil frequently stayed at Rohtak's circuit house under the identity of reader Mahesh Kumar.
The chargesheet further disclosed that while Sushil was initially assigned temporary duty with the late Y Puran Kumar in 2021, he continued to remain with the senior IPS officer without any official extension orders. This irregular arrangement continued until the case surfaced and ultimately connected with the tragic suicide of the IG officer.
The case continues to develop as the court examines the substantial evidence presented in the chargesheet, with future hearings expected to address both the bribery allegations and the broader implications for police accountability in Haryana.
