CJI Surya Kant Lauds Uttar Pradesh's New Judicial Infrastructure
Chief Justice of India Surya Kant delivered strong praise for the Uttar Pradesh government and the state's high court on Saturday. He spoke at a foundation-laying ceremony for integrated court complexes in six districts: Chandauli, Mahoba, Amethi, Shamli, Hathras, and Auraiya.
A Benchmark for the Entire Nation
The CJI stated these new complexes will establish a high standard for the country. "These complexes will become a benchmark for the country," he declared. "Whichever state I visit, I will present the example of the UP government." He expressed his intention to urge other state governments and high courts to develop similar facilities.
He connected the region's rich heritage with its modern judicial ambitions. "This region is famous for its ancient temples," Justice Kant noted. "With this new complex, the Chief Minister has initiated the process of establishing judicial temples here as well."
Designed for the Next Half-Century
Justice Kant emphasized the long-term vision behind the projects. He said the integrated court complexes are built to successfully meet the judiciary's requirements for the next 50 years. Their modern facilities for advocates and the common public will transform them into "temples of justice."
"By working here, judicial officers will deliver justice to complainants while always keeping human values in mind," he added. He also highlighted the active role bar association members will play within this new framework.
UP's Ambitious Judicial Expansion
The CJI confirmed the state's large-scale plan. "The UP Chief Minister has announced the establishment of 10 integrated court complexes in the state," he said. "Work on six of them began today." He believes their completion will allow Uttar Pradesh to set a powerful example and create new benchmarks for India.
Focus on District Judiciary and Essential Amenities
Justice Kant spoke about the constitutional importance of district courts. "The district judiciary holds a crucial place in our Constitution," he explained. The framers envisioned that establishing district courts would provide people with accessible judicial facilities in their own areas.
He also made specific recommendations to improve the working environment:
- He asked the High Court to ensure the creation of separate bar rooms for women practicing in district courts.
- While appreciating the current arrangements, he requested the Chief Minister to consider including a primary health centre within each integrated court complex.
"A health centre will provide relief to elderly individuals, litigants, and others from health-related issues while at court," the CJI stated, underscoring the need for compassionate and practical infrastructure.
