A 25-year-old man with a long criminal record found himself in police custody after a dramatic escape attempt went wrong in Coimbatore on Thursday. The incident, which culminated in an injury and a significant drug seizure, unfolded near the CMC Colony area.
Dramatic Chase Ends in Injury
The individual at the center of the event has been identified as A Sathish Kumar, a resident of CMC Colony. Police records label him as a notorious rowdy, with multiple cases pending against him at various police stations across the city. His criminal past includes previous arrests related to drug peddling and other offences.
The Police Operation and Seizure
The chain of events began when the Variety Hall police station received specific intelligence about the sale of ganja near CMC Colony. Acting swiftly on the tip-off, a police team conducted a search operation in the area. Sathish Kumar, who was reportedly waiting in an open ground to sell drugs, spotted the approaching officers and attempted to flee the scene.
In his haste to escape, he slipped, fell, and suffered a fracture on his hand. Despite the injury, he was immediately apprehended. The police search led to the confiscation of 3.1 kilograms of ganja from his possession.
Legal Action and Ongoing Probe
Following the arrest, the injured accused was first taken to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for treatment, where he was admitted. After securing necessary medical care, the police formally arrested him. He has been booked under several relevant sections of the stringent Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Authorities have confirmed that further investigation into the case is currently underway to uncover potential links and networks associated with this drug peddling activity.
