Dalit Farmer Succumbs to Injuries After Brutal Assault in UP Village
A tragic incident unfolded in Malikpur village of Kanpur Dehat district, Uttar Pradesh, where a 50-year-old Dalit farmer lost his life following a violent altercation. The victim, identified as Devkinandan Paswan, passed away on Monday evening after sustaining severe injuries during the attack.
Neighbour and Relatives Allegedly Involved in Fatal Attack
Police reports indicate that the assault occurred on Sunday evening. The neighbour, Govind Singh, allegedly arrived at Paswan's house in an intoxicated state. He began abusing Paswan over what authorities describe as a trivial issue. This verbal confrontation quickly escalated into a physical fight.
Paswan and his wife, Mamta, objected to the abuse, leading to a heated exchange between both parties. Singh's wife, who was present at the scene, then called her brother and other relatives from neighbouring Kanpur district. These individuals joined the altercation and allegedly assaulted Paswan and his wife, leaving them with serious injuries.
Police Response and Arrests Made
Upon receiving information about the incident, police personnel rushed to the spot. They immediately sent the injured victims to a nearby hospital for treatment. Due to the severity of their injuries, doctors referred them to a hospital in Kanpur for advanced care.
Paswan's condition continued to deteriorate, and he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. His wife, Mamta, is currently undergoing treatment for her wounds.
Following the farmer's death, police have taken swift action. They have arrested six individuals in connection with the case. The arrested include Govind Singh, his wife, and their relatives. Praveen Kumar Singh, the Station House Officer of Shivli police station, confirmed the arrests.
"We have arrested six persons in connection with the case, including the two persons named in the FIR and their relatives," said Officer Singh. "Following the death of Paswan, the case has been converted into murder. All the arrested accused will be produced before the court on Tuesday."
FIR Registered and Police Deployment
Paswan's daughter, Gomti, lodged a formal complaint at the Shivli police station. She named Govind Singh, his wife, and some unidentified relatives in her complaint. Based on this, police registered an FIR on charges of physical assault and other relevant sections.
After news of Paswan's death spread through the village, the accused allegedly fled the area. Police have launched raids to trace and apprehend them.
To maintain law and order in the wake of this killing, police have deployed heavy forces in Malikpur village. The village has a mixed population, and authorities are taking precautions to prevent any untoward incidents. Officers emphasized that their presence aims to ensure peace and security for all residents.
During the altercation, Paswan's daughter attempted to record the incident on her mobile phone. The accused allegedly snatched the phone and threw it away, according to police statements. This detail highlights the chaotic and violent nature of the attack.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, raising concerns about safety and justice. Police continue their investigation while maintaining a visible presence in the area to prevent further violence.
