New Delhi: A week after two cousins lost their lives in a tragic accident on central Delhi's Ashoka Road, police have arrested the truck driver in connection with the case. The accused was apprehended from Yamuna Khadar in northeast Delhi on Monday and later granted bail.
Accused Identified as Tuntun alias Titu
The accused, identified as Tuntun alias Titu, had reportedly been working as a truck driver for the past year. He was taken into custody after a brief search operation by the police.
Details of the Incident
The incident occurred on April 27, when 14-year-old Abhav Bhatia and 20-year-old Yagya Bhatia were returning home after watching an Indian Premier League (IPL) match. The two cousins were on a motorcycle when the truck, allegedly driven at high speed, collided with them, leading to their immediate deaths.
During interrogation, the accused admitted that he was driving at high speed at the time of the incident, which is believed to have been the primary cause of the crash. Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Motor Vehicles Act.
Legal Proceedings and Bail
After his arrest, Tuntun was produced before a local court, which granted him bail. The investigation is ongoing, and police are gathering further evidence to build a strong case against the driver.
The tragic accident has once again highlighted the issue of reckless driving on Delhi's roads. Authorities have urged citizens to follow traffic rules and drive responsibly to prevent such incidents.
