A 40-year-old dentist ended his life by jumping into the Agra Canal in Faridabad on Saturday evening following a dispute with his wife, police said. His body was recovered on Sunday after a search operation lasting over 20 hours.
Incident Details
The deceased, identified as Sachin, operated Guru Dental Clinic in Faridabad's Ballabgarh area. The incident came to light around 8 pm when police received information that a man had jumped from the Sector 17 bridge into the canal. A police team rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation with assistance from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).
According to an officer, Sachin was returning from his sister's house in Sector 87 along with his wife and two children when an argument broke out between the couple. “He stopped the vehicle on the Sector 17 bridge, got out and started running towards the canal. His wife and children chased him, but he jumped into the canal before they could stop him,” the officer said. The exact cause of the dispute is yet to be ascertained, police added.
Search and Recovery
Rescue teams continued the search through the night and into the next day. The body was eventually located around 4 pm on Sunday, nearly 5 to 6 kilometers downstream near the BPTP area. “The body was taken into custody and sent for autopsy. After completion of inquest proceedings under Section 194 of BNSS, the body was handed over to the family,” the officer said.
Police said no foul play is suspected at this stage, and further details are being examined.
