An intoxicated couple created a major public disturbance right outside a busy traffic police station in Bengaluru earlier this month, leaving law enforcement with few clear legal options to handle the unruly scene.
Evening Scooter Fall Leads to Drunken Discovery
The unusual incident unfolded on the evening of January 5 near Balekundri Circle on Kasturba Road. A couple from Shivajinagar, riding a gearless scooter, fell from their vehicle. Traffic police officers from the nearby Cubbon Park station rushed to assist them around 7 PM.
Upon reaching the spot, the police quickly discovered that both the man and the woman were heavily under the influence of alcohol. Following procedure, the officers booked a case against the husband for driving under the influence and seized their scooter.
Verbal Abuse Escalates to Physical Violence
What happened next turned a routine traffic violation into a public spectacle. The woman reportedly turned on her husband, launching into a torrent of verbal abuse. Standing on the steps of the Cubbon Park traffic police station, she shouted at the top of her voice, blaming him for the accident and even making serious allegations about his character.
When the husband tried to calm her down, the situation deteriorated rapidly. The argument escalated into physical violence, with the woman allegedly attacking and beating her husband. The altercation became so intense that both individuals fell to the ground but continued to kick and fight each other.
Police Intervention and Public Spectacle
The entire fight played out in full public view directly outside the police station, drawing the attention of numerous passers-by on the busy Kasturba Road. A crowd gathered to watch the shocking scene unfold.
Faced with the escalating violence and the growing audience, the police officers on duty had little choice but to physically intervene. They managed to separate the warring couple. With limited legal avenues for such a domestic brawl in a public space, their primary action was to send both individuals away from the scene to defuse the situation.
A police officer involved summarized the event, stating they assisted after the fall, discovered the intoxication, seized the vehicle, and then found themselves managing the dramatic and violent fallout between the couple until they could finally separate them.
