Prayagraj: Two unidentified bike-borne assailants shot a former gram pradhan near his house at Alamchand village under the Sandipanghat police station limits in Kaushambi on Monday. The incident occurred when Manoj Kumar (50), the former village head, had gone for a morning walk.
Upon receiving the alert, senior police officials, including the Kaushambi Superintendent of Police and forensic experts, rushed to the spot and initiated investigations. The critically injured ex-gram pradhan was admitted to SRN Hospital in Prayagraj for treatment.
A senior police officer stated that the motive behind the attack is yet to be ascertained. Three police teams have been formed to crack the case. Authorities are scanning CCTV footage to identify the assailants and are acting on some leads.
Manoj Kumar served as the pradhan of Alamchand village from 2010 to 2015. Police are probing all angles, including the possibility of an old political rivalry. An FIR under relevant sections of the law has been lodged.
