Ex-Minister Manas Bhunya Accused in Cash-for-Jobs Fraud

Sabang: Former Sabang MLA and ex-minister Manas Bhunia has been accused in a financial fraud case linked to an alleged cash-for-jobs scheme. A complaint was lodged at Sabang police station on June 10, naming Bhunia, Zilla Parishad Karmadhyaksha Sk Abu Kalam Bux, and Bholanath Dey.

Anticipatory Bail Hearing Postponed

Bhunia has moved the district court seeking anticipatory bail. The matter was listed for hearing on Thursday but could not be taken up as some documents had not reached the court, defence counsel Mrinal Choudhury said. The hearing is likely next week.

Details of the Alleged Fraud

According to the FIR filed by Bikash Tung, a resident of Sabang, Rs 5 lakh was allegedly taken in exchange for a job for his wife with CISB Service Private Limited. She joined work on March 1 and received a salary for March, but was allegedly told on May 6 that her services had been terminated.

Police have registered a case and begun an investigation. Bhunia resigned from Trinamool’s primary membership on June 13.
