Neighbour Held for Ghatkopar Woman's Brutal Murder
The Pant Nagar police have successfully solved the brutal murder of a 41-year-old woman in Ghatkopar East, arresting her neighbour in connection with the crime. The victim, Aminabi Siddiqui, was found with her throat slit under mysterious circumstances last week.
A Grisly Discovery on Christmas Morning
The case began on December 24, when Aminabi Siddiqui, a resident of an SRA building near Rising City, stepped out for her usual night walk near her home. When she failed to return and did not answer phone calls, her family launched a frantic search. The search continued through the night.
The grim discovery was made around 10 am on December 25. Aminabi was found lying in a pool of blood at PWD Ground Road, a location merely 100 metres from her residence. Her mangalsutra, mobile phone, and other belongings were intact, quickly leading investigators to rule out robbery as a possible motive.
Aminabi is survived by her husband, Mohammed Anwar, who drives an auto rickshaw for a living, and their four children—two sons and two daughters.
The Investigation: A Challenge Without Witnesses or CCTV
The case presented significant hurdles for the police from the outset. There were no CCTV cameras in the immediate area and no eyewitnesses to the crime. An offence of murder was registered against an unknown person at the Pant Nagar Police Station.
"During the technical analysis and circumstances we detained Ansari who initially refused but during sustained interrogations he admitted to killing her," said Assistant Commissioner of Police Shailash Pasalwar.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 7) Hemraj Rajput elaborated on the investigative breakthrough. The police team meticulously analysed technical evidence, including call detail records and location data. This forensic trail initially led them to scrutinise the woman's husband before ultimately pointing to the neighbour.
"Based on technical analysis and interrogation, it emerged that the accused confronted the woman during her walk and killed her in a fit of rage over the unpaid loan," DCP Rajput stated.
Financial Dispute Emerges as Motive
The investigation revealed that the murder stemmed from a long-standing financial dispute. The police have arrested Mohammed Irfan alias Fakrealam Ansari (42), who lived in the same neighbourhood as the victim.
The motive was a loan of Rs 3 lakh that the deceased, Aminabi Siddiqui, had taken from the accused's wife approximately two years ago. According to the police, Ansari allegedly killed Aminabi after she failed to repay the borrowed amount.
Authorities are also examining the role of Ansari's wife, who had lent the money to Siddiqui. The accused reportedly confronted the victim during her nightly walk, and the argument over the unpaid debt escalated into fatal violence.
The arrest brings a measure of closure to a case that shocked the local community in Rising City, Ghatkopar. It underscores how personal financial conflicts can sometimes spiral into extreme criminal acts, even between neighbours.
