Ghaziabad Sub-Inspector Arrested for Alleged Bribery in Dowry Case
Police authorities in Ghaziabad arrested a sub-inspector on Tuesday. The officer allegedly demanded a bribe to manipulate a dowry harassment investigation.
Bribe Demand for Name Removal
Sub-Inspector Bhuvneshwari Singh faces serious corruption charges. She reportedly asked for Rs 45,000 from an accused man. The money would remove his name from an official dowry case file.
Singh serves at the Mahila police station in Sahibabad. The anti-corruption team from Meerut conducted the arrest operation. They acted on a formal complaint from the accused individual.
Contrast with Previous Achievement
This arrest creates a stark contrast with Singh's recent police work. Just 112 days earlier, she participated in a successful police operation.
That operation occurred on September 23, 2025. An all-woman police team arrested a robber following a gunfight. The incident happened near the Mahila police station in Lohiya Nagar.
Station House Officer Ritu Tyagi led the team. Inspector Vineeta Yadav and SI Bhuvneshwari Singh worked alongside two women head constables. Media outlets widely praised the operation as demonstrating women officers' field capabilities.
Details of the Dowry Case
The dowry harassment case began with a complaint filed on December 16, 2025. A 28-year-old woman accused her husband, Gaurav Saini, of harassment.
The woman alleged her husband pressured her parents about property ownership. She claimed he wanted them to transfer their house to him. The complaint stated he sent her back to her parental home.
Police registered a First Information Report under the Dowry Prohibition Act. Authorities assigned Sub-Inspector Singh to investigate the case.
The Bribery Attempt and Arrest
During her investigation, Singh allegedly approached the accused husband. She demanded Rs 45,000 in exchange for specific actions.
The officer promised to remove Saini's name from the FIR. She also offered to provide him with a clean chit in the case.
Instead of paying the bribe, Saini contacted the Anti-Corruption Bureau in Meerut. ACB officials set up a trap to catch the officer in the act.
Police arrested Singh while she was allegedly accepting the bribe money. The arrest occurred during the planned operation.
Official Response and Past Record
Sahibabad Assistant Commissioner of Police Shweta Yadav confirmed the arrest. She stated authorities would register an FIR against the sub-inspector.
Departmental action will follow the criminal proceedings. The police department takes such corruption allegations seriously.
This incident marks another criminal case against Singh. In June 2022, the crime branch arrested her with two associates.
That case involved a honey-trap-style extortion scheme. At that time, Singh worked in the office of an additional deputy commissioner of police.
The current arrest raises questions about police integrity and accountability. It highlights the challenges in maintaining ethical standards within law enforcement agencies.
