Gonikoppal Gets 24x7 CCTV Surveillance to Curb Crime & Traffic Issues
Gonikoppal Installs 24x7 CCTV Network for Security

In a significant move to bolster security and regulate traffic, the fast-growing town of Gonikoppal in Kodagu district has become the latest to adopt a high-tech surveillance solution. A comprehensive 24x7 CCTV monitoring system with 360-degree coverage has been officially launched and is now operational from the circle inspector's office.

MLA's Grant Powers Public Safety Project

The ambitious surveillance project was made possible through a grant provided by Virajpet MLA AS Ponnanna. The initiative was set into motion after Gonikoppal Circle Inspector Shivaraj Mudhol highlighted the pressing need for such a system to the MLA. Police had reported a noticeable increase in incidents including shoplifting and various traffic violations, necessitating better monitoring capabilities.

Acting promptly on the police department's formal request, MLA Ponnanna sanctioned the necessary funds and supported the entire installation process. The operational control and responsibility for the newly established CCTV network have now been formally handed over to the police department, empowering them to manage the feeds directly.

Strategic Camera Placement Across Town

The surveillance infrastructure has been carefully deployed at strategic and high-traffic points across Gonikoppal to ensure maximum coverage. A total of 12 advanced CCTV cameras have been installed at crucial locations. These include:

  • The bustling Town Bus Stand
  • The Ponnampet Road Junction
  • The key bypass road junction
  • The area near the Umamaheshwari Temple

A particularly notable installation is the 360-degree camera at the bus stand, which offers police personnel a comprehensive, panoramic view of all activities in and around this critical hub. This allows for real-time assessment of crowd movement and potential issues.

Live Monitoring for Proactive Policing

The live feed from all these cameras is centralized at the Gonikoppal Circle Inspector's office, creating a dedicated surveillance nerve center. The system is also accessible to other police officers and the Station House Officer (SHO) at the local police station, ensuring multiple points of oversight.

This real-time access enables the police to perform several key functions proactively. Personnel can now monitor public movement continuously, assess traffic congestion as it builds up, and specifically track issues linked to autorickshaw operations. The ability to observe live feeds allows for quicker response times to unfolding situations and serves as a potent deterrent against illegal activities.

The introduction of this round-the-clock surveillance network marks a major step forward in modernizing the town's security apparatus. It is expected to significantly aid law enforcement in maintaining order, managing traffic flow, and creating a safer environment for the residents and visitors of Gonikoppal.
