A simmering land dispute in Nuh district of Gurgaon erupted into widespread violence on December 30, resulting in multiple injuries and prompting police to file a case against 26 individuals. The incident, rooted in a village rivalry in Bai village, saw groups pelting stones and assaulting each other with weapons.
Sequence of Events Leading to the Clash
The conflict traces back to an earlier case registered against a group at the Akera police station this year. According to the police, tensions boiled over on December 29. The complainant, Tahir Hussain, was allegedly stopped near his village fields by an accused who threatened him with dire consequences if the previous case was not withdrawn.
The situation turned violent the next evening around 5:15 PM. Tahir's son, Salim, along with relatives Faizan and Sahid, were returning home from Nuh in a car. At a turn, a group allegedly blocked the road with a large stone and called accomplices armed with sticks, iron rods, and stones. As Faizan tried to flee, he was chased and assaulted. The attackers then damaged the vehicle, smashing its windscreen with sharp weapons and iron rods.
Escalation and Aftermath of the Violence
The car's occupants managed to escape and sought help at the village chaupal. Shortly after, a larger group reportedly reached Tahir's neighbourhood. They attacked residents, pelted stones, and broke household items. The assault left several people from Tahir's family and neighbourhood with serious injuries.
Yasin sustained multiple blows to the head, face, and legs, collapsing unconscious at the spot. Khurshid suffered chest injuries after being hit with bricks and sticks. Farhana, Tahir's daughter, lost an upper incisor tooth following a blow to her mouth. Others including Talim, Jamshida, Saija, Muskan, and Rashina also sustained injuries, as confirmed by medico-legal reports from CHC Nuh which noted multiple blunt-force injuries.
Police Action and Legal Proceedings
Following the complaint and medical evidence, the Akera police station registered a case under sections of rioting, criminal intimidation, and causing grievous hurt. One critically injured person was referred to PGI Rohtak, while others were shifted to Nalhar Medical College for advanced treatment.
Police stated that the violence began when two relatives of Tahir Hussain were returning home and were stopped and assaulted by some men, leading to people on a terrace beginning to hurl stones. The case has been filed under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
