A shocking incident of road rage and assault in Gurgaon culminated in the arrest of a 33-year-old man on Saturday. The accused, identified as Gaurav, a resident of Empire Estate, allegedly rammed his car into his friend's vehicle and then dragged a security guard for several metres before fleeing the scene.
New Year Party Dispute Turns Violent
The roots of the violent episode trace back to a New Year's Eve party in Delhi. According to police, Gaurav attended the gathering with friends, including the eventual victim of the car damage. An argument broke out among the group during the celebrations. The situation escalated after the party when the friend, whose car was later targeted, repeatedly tried calling Gaurav. These persistent calls allegedly infuriated Gaurav, pushing him into a fit of rage.
The Gurgaon Car Rampage and Assault
In the early hours of January 1, around 7:35 AM, the confrontation turned physical in Gurgaon's upscale DLF Phase 1 area. The security guard, employed at a residence there, was cleaning outside his employer's house when the incident occurred. Police stated that Gaurav drove his Swift Dzire directly into his friend's parked vehicle, causing significant damage.
When the guard approached to question him about the accident, Gaurav's anger boiled over. Instead of stopping, he accelerated his moving car, catching the guard and dragging him along. The victim was carried for approximately 30 metres before being dropped onto the road. Gaurav then sped away from the location, leaving the injured guard behind.
Police Action and Aftermath
The injured security guard was promptly admitted to a hospital for treatment. Based on his written complaint, the DLF Phase 1 police station registered a case and began an investigation. Their probe led them to Sultanpur in Delhi, where Gaurav was arrested. Upon his arrest, the police seized his Swift Dzire car, the vehicle's registration certificate, and his driving licence.
During interrogation, Gaurav revealed to the police that the owner of the damaged car was his friend. The entire violent spree was an outcome of the unresolved dispute that began at the New Year party. The case remains under investigation as authorities piece together the full sequence of events.
