Gurgaon YouTuber Arrested for Extortion, Online Harassment

Police in Gurgaon arrested a YouTuber on Wednesday for serious online harassment and extortion. The accused allegedly targeted a woman with obscene social media comments, damaging her reputation and demanding money.

Woman Politician Faces Relentless Harassment

The victim, who contested a previous assembly election as a political party candidate, reported the harassment to Ballabgarh City police station in Faridabad. She stated the YouTuber began targeting her during her election campaign.

Under pressure and fearing public humiliation, the woman paid Rs 25,000 to the accused. However, the harassment continued despite the payment, according to her complaint.

Police Take Swift Action

Authorities registered an FIR on Tuesday under relevant sections of the BNS. The charges include defamation, obscenity, extortion, and criminal intimidation.

Police investigation revealed the accused used multiple social media platforms to post vulgar and double-meaning remarks. These actions caused significant damage to the woman's social image and mental peace.

Extortion Demands and Threats

The YouTuber allegedly demanded several lakh rupees from the victim. He threatened to spread false and defamatory content across social media if she refused to pay.

Instead of stopping, the accused continued posting objectionable content on Facebook and other platforms. This persistent behavior prompted the woman to file a formal police complaint.

Evidence Collection and Prior Cases

After receiving the complaint, police conducted an initial inquiry through the cybercrime branch. They sought legal opinion before proceeding with the arrest.

Investigators found the accused maintained constant contact with the victim using a mobile phone. Police seized this device as crucial evidence in the case.

Police records uncovered disturbing patterns. Several similar cases of extortion, blackmailing, and IT Act violations were previously registered against the same accused. These cases occurred at different police stations in Faridabad and Nainital.

Judicial Process Moves Forward

After completing necessary investigations, police produced the accused before a local court. The court sent him to judicial custody, marking a significant step in the legal process.

This case highlights growing concerns about online harassment and extortion through social media platforms. It demonstrates how digital tools can be misused to target individuals, particularly women in public life.

Authorities emphasize the importance of reporting such incidents promptly. They assure victims that proper legal mechanisms exist to address online harassment and extortion attempts.

The Gurgaon police's action serves as a warning to those who misuse social media for criminal activities. It shows law enforcement's increasing capability to handle cybercrimes effectively.
