Haryana Congress MLA Balram Dangi, whose office was recently targeted in a firing incident, has now received a Rs 5-crore extortion threat. The development comes as the second accused in the shooting case was arrested after an encounter with the police.
Extortion Demand After Firing
According to police sources, the extortion call was made to the MLA's office late on June 25, demanding Rs 5 crore. The caller threatened dire consequences if the money was not paid. The police have registered a case and are investigating the matter.
Second Accused Arrested
The Rohtak police arrested the second accused in the firing incident, identified as a local gangster, after a brief encounter. The accused sustained a leg injury in the exchange of fire and was taken into custody. The first accused was arrested earlier.
Background of the Case
On June 20, unidentified assailants fired multiple rounds at Balram Dangi's office in Meham, causing panic in the area. No one was injured in the incident. Dangi, a Congress MLA from Meham, had alleged that the attack was politically motivated.
Police Investigation
Rohtak police have formed multiple teams to investigate the extortion threat and the firing incident. Senior police officials said they are probing possible links between the two incidents. The arrested accused are being interrogated to ascertain the motive and any larger conspiracy.
