A powerful explosion rocked Habibi Nagar in Hazaribag on Wednesday. The blast killed three people instantly. This tragic incident has stirred painful memories of a similar explosion in the same locality back in 2016. That earlier blast claimed six lives.
District's Troubled History with Security Incidents
Hazaribag district carries a heavy historical burden. The area links to the 1989 riots and several violent clashes over the years. Habibi Nagar itself presents particular challenges. This neighborhood is densely populated by the Muslim community. It lies directly adjacent to Khirgaon, one of the largest Muslim localities in the entire town.
Khirgaon has seen significant security action in the past. In January 2002, security forces gunned down two Pakistani nationals. These individuals were Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists wanted for the attack on the American Centre in Kolkata. This incident marked the first confirmed terror link to Hazaribag district.
Pattern of Terrorist Arrests in the Region
The district has witnessed multiple terrorist arrests over the years. Security forces arrested Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist Taufiq in 2012. They captured him from his Kashmir House residence located at Pugmil.
More recently, Pune police arrested ISIS terrorist Shahnawaz Alam in 2023. Alam was a native of Hazaribag. In 2024, authorities held another terrorist from the area. This individual, Faizan Ahmad, had links to al-Qaida. Police apprehended him from Lohsighna in Hazaribag.
Police Investigation Underway with Multiple Angles
Police teams are now probing the cause and nature of Wednesday's explosion. A senior police officer told reporters that investigation teams have received specific directions. They must examine this case while keeping earlier terror-related incidents in mind. Investigators will also consider bomb-making accidents previously reported from the locality.
"Wednesday's blast raises serious suspicions because of the district's past security concerns," a police officer stated. "We are not ruling out any angle at this preliminary stage. Forensic inputs, technical analysis, and intelligence assessment will all form crucial parts of our probe."
Intelligence Circles Express Deep Concern
The incident has triggered significant concern within intelligence circles. Officials worry about the recurrence of such explosions in a long-identified sensitive zone. This concern persists despite sustained surveillance efforts following the 2016 blast.

Local political leaders have voiced their concerns. Hazaribag MP Manish Jaiswal posed a critical question. "How does an area under a security shadow for such a long time continue to be a scene of these terrible incidents?" he asked. "The nature of this blast hints at something significant. These areas urgently need a tight security search and a comprehensive sanitization exercise."
The community now waits anxiously for answers. Residents hope the investigation will provide clarity and prevent future tragedies in their neighborhood.
