The Shahdara District Police arrested a 35-year-old man for allegedly murdering his 30-year-old wife in her sleep in East Delhi’s Karkardooma village on June 28, 2026. The accused, Anuj Joshi, traveled from Lucknow to Delhi by bus, carrying a knife he purchased in Lucknow, and stabbed the victim multiple times around 5:40 am.
Victim Identified
The deceased, Sonam Joshi, originally from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, worked as a domestic help in Noida. At the time of the incident, she was staying at the residence of her sister-in-law, Kaushal, in Karkardooma village. Police received a PCR call on Sunday morning reporting a woman lying in a pool of blood. Upon arrival, they found Sonam with multiple stab wounds and declared her dead at the scene.
Arrest and Evidence
Police teams, along with the Crime Team and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), examined the scene, collected evidence, and sent the body for post-mortem. With the help of family members and local residents, police apprehended Anuj Joshi. According to police, the accused hid the murder weapon—a knife—inside a plastic bag in the same room, which was later recovered at his instance.
Motive and Background
According to police, the motive behind the murder was Anuj’s suspicion that Sonam was having an extramarital affair. Anuj, a resident of Pandey Tola in Aliganj, Lucknow, earns a living by operating an ice cream cart. He was previously married to a woman named Jyoti, with whom he has two children. After their divorce, he married Sonam, and the couple has three children. All five children currently live with the accused in Lucknow.
