Tragic New Year's Eve Ends in Fatal Accident for Hyderabad Family
A joyous New Year's Day family outing in Hyderabad turned into an unimaginable tragedy when a couple lost their lives in a horrific road accident. The incident occurred on the evening of January 1st, when a city bus collided with their scooter.
The victims have been identified as 45-year-old Venkata Ramana and her 50-year-old husband Thirupathaiyya, who worked as a watchman. The couple, residents of Kothapet, were on their way to Tank Bund along with their family members.
Sequence of Events Leading to the Tragedy
The family group was traveling on three separate two-wheelers. The couple was on a scooter, while their son, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, and daughter followed on two other bikes. Their son, 21-year-old P Ashok, was leading the group.
At approximately 8:30 PM on Thursday, near the Moosarambagh bridge, the fatal collision took place. The bus involved belonged to the Dilsukhnagar depot of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (RTC).
Ashok, realizing his parents were missing from behind, called his father's mobile phone. It was then that he received the devastating news from his brother-in-law, Gopi Krishna, who informed him about the accident at the bridge.
Aftermath and Police Action
Rushing back to the scene, Ashok found his parents lying in a pool of blood beside their mangled scooter. Alert passers-by had already informed the police, and the couple was quickly transported to a nearby hospital.
Unfortunately, doctors at the hospital declared them brought dead upon arrival. Based on the formal complaint lodged by Ashok, the Malakpet police station registered a case against the bus driver.
The case has been filed under Section 106 (1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which pertains to causing death due to a rash or negligent act. The bus driver, identified as Nandu, was subsequently apprehended by the authorities.
Malakpet Inspector P Naresh confirmed, "We have apprehended the bus driver, Nandu, and issued him a notice as per law."
The bodies of the deceased were handed over to their grieving family on Friday after a post-mortem examination was conducted at Osmania Hospital. The incident has cast a pall of sorrow over the Kothapet area and raised serious questions about road safety on Hyderabad's bridges.
