IPS Officer Dipesh Juneja Concludes Illustrious Three-Decade Career

Lucknow: The distinguished 1992-batch Uttar Pradesh cadre IPS officer, Dipesh Juneja, officially retired from service on Friday, marking the end of an illustrious career spanning over three decades. His retirement came from the position of Director General (Prosecution) in the Uttar Pradesh Police, where he had been serving prior to superannuation.

Extensive Policing Career Across Uttar Pradesh

Juneja's career was characterized by a series of significant postings across various districts in Uttar Pradesh. He initially served as the Superintendent of Police in Almora, Rampur, Amroha, Maharajganj, and Shahjahanpur. His leadership roles expanded as he took on the responsibilities of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in major cities including Gorakhpur, Saharanpur, Allahabad, Meerut, and Agra. Notably, he also held dual roles as SSP and Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in Agra, Bareilly, and Saharanpur, demonstrating his versatility and administrative acumen.

Central Deputation with Indo-Tibetan Border Police

In 2010, Officer Juneja proceeded on central deputation to the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), a paramilitary force. During his tenure with ITBP, he served as DIG in the Shimla sector and at the Chandigarh Frontier. He was later entrusted with personnel management at the ITBP Headquarters. Upon promotion to Inspector General (IG), he oversaw critical anti-Naxal operations in the Bhopal and Chhattisgarh Frontier, followed by handling a broad portfolio at the ITBP Headquarters, contributing significantly to the force's operational and administrative frameworks.

Return to Uttar Pradesh and Senior Roles

After completing his central deputation, Juneja returned to the Uttar Pradesh Police, where he served as Additional Director General (ADG) in several key departments. These included the UP Police Recruitment and Promotion Board (UPPRPB), security, karmik (personnel), and prosecution. His exemplary service led to his promotion to the post of Director General in prosecution and later in the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), where he played a pivotal role in legal and investigative matters.

International Assignments and UN Mission

Juneja's career also featured prominent international assignments. He represented India as the Contingent Commander of the Indian Civilian Police in the United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK), leading a substantial 300-member team. During his UN stint, he was associated with the UN Police Training Centre and conducted standard assessment tests in Kenya, Russia, and Argentina, enhancing global policing standards and India's diplomatic presence.

Contributions to Sports, Academics, and Awards

Beyond policing, Juneja actively contributed to sports and adventure activities. He served as the manager of the Indian Ski Team at the World Ski Championship held in Finland in 2017 and is an associate member of the Mountaineering Federation of India. Prior to joining the IPS, he worked with the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) in Mumbai.

His academic pursuits are equally impressive, holding multiple degrees including BCom (Hons) as a gold medalist, MA in Economics, MBA, ICWA, LLB, MDPA, MPhil as a gold medalist, a postgraduate certificate in cyber law, and a PhD. He has co-authored many books, reflecting his scholarly interests.

Juneja's decorated career was recognized with numerous awards, including the Indian Police Medal in 2010, the President's Police Medal in 2016, the Kathin Sewa Padak, UNMIK/Foreign Service Medal, and Kumbh Medal. He also received nine discs and multiple commendation rolls from directors general of ITBP and Uttar Pradesh Police, underscoring his exceptional service and dedication.
