In a concerted crackdown against drug trafficking, Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested seven individuals and recovered more than 38 grams of heroin during separate operations conducted across Samba, Kathua and Doda districts, officials confirmed on Sunday.
Major seizure on national highway
Acting on a tip-off, police intercepted an SUV at Barian-Supwal along the Jammu-Pathankot National Highway in Samba district. A thorough search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 22.28 grams of heroin and a sharp-edged weapon, according to a police spokesman.
The four occupants of the vehicle—identified as Bikram Kumar, Bodh Raj alias Shama, Malkit Singh and Jaspreet Singh—were arrested on the spot. The contraband and the car were also seized as part of the operation, the spokesperson added.
Arrests in Samba and Kathua
In separate frisking operations, police arrested Rafiq Poswal from Nanak Chack in Samba district and Kuldeep Singh from Mangtian Morh in Kathua district. Approximately 5 grams of heroin were recovered from each of them on Saturday, the spokesman said.
Apprehension in Doda town
Meanwhile, in Doda town, police apprehended Aqib Javeed while he was riding a two-wheeler. A search yielded 6.90 grams of heroin from his possession, leading to his arrest on Saturday, according to the spokesman.
Legal action and investigation
All arrested drug peddlers have been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The police spokesman confirmed that further investigations are ongoing in all cases as part of the intensified anti-drug campaign in the region.
