CID Arrests Former Belur MLA KS Lingesh in Land Irregularity Case
Hassan: Senior JD(S) leader and former Belur MLA KS Lingesh was taken into custody by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Friday in connection with alleged irregularities in sanctioning land under the Bagar Hukum scheme. Hassan Superintendent of Police Shubhanwitha confirmed that Lingesh was taken into custody in connection with a 2023 case.
Allegations of Large-Scale Fraud
The complaint alleges that about 2,750 acres of government land were sanctioned to 1,430 bogus beneficiaries using fake documents. A case was registered against the former MLA and others. The high court dismissed a petition seeking the quashing of the case and directed that the investigation continue.
CID Takes Custody for Further Action
In this backdrop, the CID has taken Lingesh and several others connected to the case into custody for further legal action. The investigation is ongoing. An officer said the complaint points to large-scale irregularities in Belur taluk, where ineligible persons were shown as landless farmers and granted land under the scheme meant to regularise cultivation by the landless poor.
Revenue Officials Under Scanner
Sources said revenue officials who processed the files are also under the scanner. The CID is verifying survey numbers and examining the role of village accountants and tahsildar office staff.
