Police Seize Jewellery and Cash in Ram Temple Donation Theft Case
In a significant development in the Ram Temple donation theft investigation, police have recovered a substantial amount of jewellery and cash believed to be part of the stolen offerings. The seizure occurred during a raid conducted late Thursday night in Ayodhya, following a tip-off about the whereabouts of the stolen items.
The theft, which took place at the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple complex, involved donations from devotees that were kept in the temple's donation boxes. Authorities have been under pressure to solve the case quickly, given the religious significance and public sentiment.
Details of the Seizure
According to police officials, the recovered items include gold and silver ornaments, as well as a large sum of cash. The estimated value of the seized property is around ₹50 lakh. The raid was conducted by a special investigation team (SIT) formed to probe the theft.
“We have recovered jewellery and cash that match the description of the stolen donations. The accused will be produced in court soon,” said Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ayodhya, Shailesh Kumar Pandey.
No Lawyers Willing to Defend the Accused
In an unprecedented turn of events, no lawyer in Ayodhya has come forward to defend the accused in the case. Local bar associations have passed resolutions refusing to represent the individuals involved in the theft, citing the sacrilegious nature of the crime.
“The theft of donations meant for Lord Ram is a heinous act. We have decided not to provide legal assistance to the accused,” said Rajesh Mishra, President of the Ayodhya Bar Association.
The accused, identified as three temple employees, have been arrested and are currently in police custody. They face charges of theft and criminal breach of trust.
Public Outrage and Security Measures
The incident has sparked widespread outrage among devotees and religious leaders. Protests have been held demanding strict punishment for the guilty. The temple administration has announced enhanced security measures, including the installation of CCTV cameras and increased surveillance of donation boxes.
“We are deeply saddened by this incident. We will ensure that such a thing does not happen again. The security of devotees' offerings is our top priority,” said Mahant Satyendra Das, chief priest of the Ram Temple.
Investigation Progress
The SIT is interrogating the accused and examining financial records to trace any other stolen items. Police have also issued a lookout notice for a fourth suspect who is still at large. The investigation is expected to conclude within a week, with chargesheet to be filed promptly.
“We are confident of a speedy trial and conviction. The evidence gathered so far is strong,” added SSP Pandey.
