Surprise Inspection at Jharsuguda District Jail Leads to Seizure of Prohibited Items
Jharsuguda: A surprise inspection at Jharsuguda District Jail on Thursday resulted in the seizure of prohibited items, including tobacco products and sharp objects, officials said. The operation was conducted under the supervision of Jharsuguda Superintendent of Police G R Raghavendra to assess security arrangements and curb the entry and circulation of banned items inside the prison.
Police and jail officials carried out thorough searches of barracks, common areas, and inmates' belongings. They recovered bidis, tobacco products, gutka sachets, matchboxes, razor blades, and a lighter.
“The inspection was aimed at evaluating the overall security environment within the jail and identifying any potential lapses,” Raghavendra stated. The team also reviewed CCTV surveillance, inmate management practices, visitor monitoring, and other security measures.
Officials said instructions were issued to jail authorities to strengthen security and ensure strict compliance with prison rules. They added that such inspections would continue on a regular basis to maintain discipline and prevent the flow of contraband.
