Jilted lover kills woman hours before groom's visit in Bihar

A 22-year-old woman was shot dead by a jilted lover in Ghodaghat Ward-1 under Forbesganj police station area on Thursday, hours before a prospective groom's family was scheduled to visit her. The accused, identified as Md Kasib (25), allegedly entered the room of Chandni Khatun, daughter of Md Gyasuddin, around 8am and fired three rounds at her. One bullet hit her chest, while two others struck her arm. She died on the spot, police said.

Background of the accused and victim

According to police, Kasib and Chandni were neighbours since childhood and had studied in the same madrasa. They were earlier friends, but Chandni had refused his marriage proposal. Family members said Kasib had been pressuring her to marry him for the past three years despite her refusal. He had also allegedly threatened to kill her if she did not agree.

Events leading to the murder

On Wednesday night, Kasib reportedly learnt that a groom's family was to visit Chandni on May 7. He allegedly tried to enter her house but failed and remained nearby through the night. On Thursday morning, when Chandni's mother stepped out after opening the gate, Kasib entered the house and shot Chandni from close range while she was sleeping with her younger sister. Due to the use of a silencer, the sister did not hear the gunshots.

Discovery and aftermath

Around 30 minutes later, the younger sister found Chandni lying in a pool of blood and alerted neighbours. She was taken to Forbesganj Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared her dead. Dr Krishna Mohan Kumar, who attended her, said the bullet hit the right side of her chest and she died due to excessive blood loss.

Family's account and police response

The victim's mother said the accused was known to the family and used to visit their house. Her husband works as a labourer in another state. Forbesganj SDPO Mukesh Kumar Saha said prima facie the case appears to be linked to a one-sided love affair. The accused is absconding and police are conducting raids to arrest him.
