A jilted lover brutally stabbed a 40-year-old woman multiple times in Krishna Nagar, Khanna, on Sunday. The victim, identified as Rajni, was left with eight to ten stab wounds and was initially treated at a local hospital before being referred to a government hospital in Chandigarh in critical condition.
Initial confusion resolved through scientific investigation
Initially, the attack was reported as a blind case, with rumors suggesting that robbers had snatched a mobile phone from the woman and injured her. However, during police investigation, the case turned out to be a one-sided affair. The Khanna police cracked the case through scientific investigation, identifying the assailant as a jilted lover who is a panch from Harion Kalan village in Samrala.
Suspect identified as Gurharpreet Singh
Senior Superintendent of Police, Khanna, Dr Darpan Ahluwalia, confirmed to The Tribune that the suspect was identified as Gurharpreet Singh (49), alias Sharanjit Singh. According to Ahluwalia, the suspect had proposed friendship to the woman, but she refused. Angered by the rejection, Gurharpreet cornered the woman on Sunday and stabbed her multiple times. The SSP added that the suspect also snatched the woman's mobile phone after the attack, as she had reportedly captured his pictures, and he wanted to destroy the evidence. Both the suspect and the victim are married.
Suspect has criminal background
The SSP revealed that Gurharpreet Singh has a criminal background, with four cases already registered against him in Samrala and Khanna, including under the Arms Act. Police parties have been formed to nab the suspect, who is currently on the run.
Victim's condition and medical response
SMO, Khanna Civil Hospital, Maninder Singh Bhasin, said the injured woman had eight to ten stab wounds and was bleeding profusely. A team of doctors first controlled the bleeding and administered first aid before referring her to a hospital in Chandigarh for further treatment.
