Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir have been placed on high alert following a series of incidents involving suspicious movements and the recovery of a drone near the international border. Joint teams conducted extensive search operations across the Samba and Jammu districts on Friday, acting swiftly on local intelligence inputs.
Villager's Encounter Triggers Major Search in Samba
The security response was initiated after a resident of Katli village, located near the Maheshwar Military area in Samba district, reported a critical encounter. On Friday, the villager spotted an armed individual on a motorcycle who asked for directions to the national highway. As other locals began to gather, the suspect quickly accelerated and fled the scene, prompting immediate alerts to the police.
A joint team of security forces rushed to the site and launched a comprehensive search operation to track down the fleeing suspect. This incident set off a chain of heightened security activities across the region.
Combing Operations and Drone Seizure Intensify Vigilance
Simultaneously, on the same day, a separate joint team comprising Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Special Operations Group (SOG), and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) began a meticulous combing operation in the forested areas of Sidhra, on the outskirts of Jammu city.
In a significant development, Border Security Force (BSF) troops seized a suspected surveillance drone from the Nawa Pind area in RS Pura sector, near the international border, on Friday. Preliminary examination identified the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) as a DJI Neo 2 model, a type commonly used for surveillance purposes. The drone has been sent to a forensic laboratory for detailed technical analysis to ascertain its origin and intended mission.
Heightened Security Ahead of Republic Day
These operations are part of a broader security clampdown in the run-up to Republic Day. Officials confirmed that forces have been placed on high alert, with intensified patrols and continuous search operations being conducted in sensitive areas.
The security net has been tightened specifically along the international border in Samba and Kathua districts, the Rajouri-Poonch frontier, and the Kishtwar-Doda-Udhampur belt. This latter region is a traditional infiltration route used by terrorists to enter the Kashmir Valley.
The proactive measures also included a joint checking campaign by the Army and police in the border village of Miran Sahib, Jammu, which began on Thursday and continued through the night. Security personnel rigorously checked every vehicle passing through the area during this exercise.
All investigations into the recent events are ongoing as security forces maintain a robust presence to ensure stability in the region.
