Kanpur Police Arrest Share Trading Fraud Accused from Medical Clinic

In a significant development, Nazirababad police apprehended Sushil Dhawan, a key suspect in multiple share trading fraud cases, from a clinic near JK Mandir Nahariya in Kanpur on Friday morning. Dhawan was reportedly undergoing medical treatment at the facility for the past three days prior to his arrest.

Multiple Cases Registered Against Dhawan and Family Members

More than half a dozen cases have been officially registered against Sushil Dhawan at both Kakadeo and Nazirababad police stations. Notably, his wife and father are also listed as co-accused in these legal proceedings, highlighting the alleged involvement of family members in the fraudulent activities.

Recent Complaints and Police Action

On Monday, a group of victims met with the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Central to file a formal complaint against Dhawan. In response, the DCP Central promptly handed over the investigation to Assistant Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) Sumit Sudhakar Ramteke, ensuring a focused probe into the matter.

Details of the Fraudulent Operations

Sushil Dhawan, a resident of Moti Vihar Society in Sarvodaya Nagar, operated an office in Kaushalpuri. From this location, he conducted share broking work with the consent of various individuals, which later turned into a series of alleged financial scams.

Key Cases and Allegations:

  • In 2021, Pradeep Manga, a resident of Pandu Nagar Model Town, filed a case at Nazirababad police station against Dhawan, his wife Anjali, and Rudra Shares and Brokers company. The complaint accused them of illegally grabbing shares worth Rs 2 crore through the use of forged documents.
  • In 2024, Richa Sharma, a resident of Kaushalpuri, lodged a complaint alleging that Dhawan embezzled Rs 51 lakh from her.
  • On January 1, a report was registered concerning a fraud amounting to Rs 60 lakh, along with another case involving Rs 7 lakh, filed by a central excise and customs officer.
  • Businessman Prateesh Rastogi also filed similar complaints, accusing Dhawan of grabbing shares valued at Rs 1.57 crore.

The investigation has been formally assigned to ADCP Sumit Sudhakar Ramteke, who will oversee the proceedings to ensure justice for the victims. The arrest marks a crucial step in addressing these serious financial crimes in Kanpur.
