In a shocking incident from Odisha's Kendrapada district, a 38-year-old man was taken into custody by police on Saturday. The arrest followed a serious allegation of rape against a 35-year-old woman at her residence the previous night.
Details of the Alleged Assault
According to the police report, the traumatic event occurred on Friday night at the woman's home. The accused allegedly scaled the boundary wall to gain illegal entry into the premises. After entering, he is accused of assaulting the woman and then committing the crime of rape. Officials stated that the man also threatened to kill the victim if she dared to reveal the incident to anyone, adding a layer of intimidation to the violent act.
Legal Action and Arrest Under New Law
The matter came to the forefront after the brave survivor approached the Rajnagar police station and lodged a formal First Information Report (FIR) on Saturday. Acting swiftly on her complaint, the police arrested the accused. Significantly, the charges have been framed under the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The specific sections invoked are 64(2)(M) for rape, 331(4) for house trespass, and 118(1) for causing grievous hurt by a dangerous weapon.
Following the arrest, both the woman and the accused were taken for a medical examination at the district headquarters hospital, a standard procedural step in such cases.
Court Denies Bail, Accused in Custody
The legal process moved quickly thereafter. The accused was produced in court on Saturday itself. The court, after hearing the case, took a stern view and rejected his bail plea. Consequently, he has been remanded to judicial custody.
Naresh Sahoo, the Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of Rajnagar police station, confirmed the developments, stating the accused is now behind bars as the investigation proceeds.
