Molestation Case in Khandwa Turns Fatal: Man Dies After Attack, 3 Arrested
Khandwa Molestation Case Escalates to Murder, 3 Arrested

A complaint of alleged molestation in a village in Madhya Pradesh's Khandwa district took a violent turn this week, resulting in the death of a man and leading to multiple arrests by the police. The incident, which began with accusations against two villagers, has prompted authorities to invoke serious charges including murder and provisions of the SC/ST Act.

How a Molestation Complaint Sparked Violence

The chain of events started on Wednesday night in Bhakarada village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Jawar police station. A 16-year-old girl accused two villagers of molestation. She further alleged that the accused had forcibly given her a mobile phone and threatened her to stay in contact. After the teenager informed her family members about the incident, representatives from both sides initiated talks in an attempt to resolve the matter.

However, the discussions quickly deteriorated into a heated dispute. Acting on the formal complaint filed by the girl, the Jawar police registered a case under relevant sections of the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) as well as the stringent Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The Fatal Assault and Escalation

The situation escalated dramatically when a man, reportedly on his way to file a police complaint related to the ongoing dispute, was intercepted on the road. He was brutally assaulted with iron pipes by a group of individuals. The assailants are also alleged to have hurled caste-based abuses at the victim, his mother, and his father during the attack, which was carried out with the intention to kill.

The assault left one of the men with critical injuries. He was initially provided medical aid but due to the severity of his condition, he was referred to a hospital in Indore for advanced treatment. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment, turning a case of assault into a murder investigation.

Police Action and Heightened Security

Following the death, the police added murder charges to the existing case and also invoked provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Khandwa Superintendent of Police Manoj Kumar Rai stated that a special investigation team was formed under the guidance of senior officers. This team has so far arrested three people in connection with the violence and the murder. SP Rai confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and the role of other accused persons is being examined.

Anticipating a tense situation, especially ahead of the victim's funeral, the police made heavy deployments in Bhakarada village. The force was stationed to maintain law and order and prevent any further flare-up of violence in the community.

The incident highlights how a local dispute can rapidly spiral into a serious crime, prompting a multi-pronged legal response from authorities. The police continue to investigate all angles of the case, from the initial molestation allegations to the subsequent fatal attack.
