Kochi Court Hands Down Life Sentence in Murder Case

The Paravur additional sessions court in Kochi delivered a significant verdict on Wednesday. Judge Jyothi V sentenced a 36-year-old man from Uttarakhand to life imprisonment for murder. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh on the accused, Prakash Singh.

Details of the Murder Incident

The tragic event took place on May 17, 2019. Prakash Singh and the victim, Ravindra Singh, also hailed from Uttarakhand. Both men worked at a restaurant located in Paniyeli, under the Kuruppampady police station's jurisdiction.

Police reports indicate that Ravindra Singh observed Prakash frequently borrowing money from the restaurant owner. Concerned about this behavior, Ravindra advised the owner to stop lending money to Prakash. Upon discovering this advice, Prakash became enraged.

In a fit of anger, the accused attacked Ravindra with a wooden log. The assault proved fatal, resulting in Ravindra's death. Following the incident, an investigation team led by then station house officer K R Manoj swiftly arrested Prakash Singh.

Separate Drug Bust in Paravur

In an unrelated development, law enforcement authorities made a major drug seizure in Paravur. The district anti-narcotics special action force collaborated with Aluva police to arrest a 21-year-old man on Tuesday night.

Officers apprehended Bilal, a resident of Mathathil House in the Muvattupuzha Market area. They recovered 69 grams of MDMA from his possession at Paravur Kavala.

Investigators revealed that the drugs originated from Bangalore. The MDMA traveled to Kerala concealed in a special compartment inside a jacket. It arrived via an interstate tourist bus.

Police stated that the seized drugs were intended for distribution among local youth. The investigation team included several key officers. Narcotics cell DySP J Umesh Kumar, Aluva DySP T R Rajesh, inspector G P Manu Raj, and sub-inspector K Nandakumar all participated in the operation.
