In a swift response to a violent incident, the Kodagu district police have arrested four individuals in connection with the assault on Appachira Gautham Cariappa, a right-wing activist from Dodda Pulikot village. The attack occurred on Friday in Napoklu, leading to heightened tensions and subsequent protests in the area.

Details of the Arrest and Judicial Proceedings

According to Kodagu Superintendent of Police Bindu Mani, the injured activist, Gautham, is currently receiving medical treatment at the District Hospital in Madikeri. The police acted promptly, apprehending the accused and presenting them before a local court. On Saturday, the court remanded all four individuals to judicial custody, ensuring they face legal proceedings for their alleged involvement in the assault.

The arrested individuals have been identified as:

  • Suhail PH, aged 24, from Karekadu
  • KE Siddique, aged 20, from Bethu village
  • PM Nafi, aged 19, from Napoklu
  • PA Rashid, aged 30, from Napoklu

Protests and Police Intervention

Following the attack on Friday evening, right-wing organizations staged road blockades in Napoklu to protest the assault on Gautham, who was reportedly campaigning in the area regarding the Hindu Sangama programme. This led to a tense situation, prompting immediate police action. Officers, including the Deputy Superintendent of Police, rushed to the scene and successfully brought the situation under control.

To further ensure stability, SP Bindu Mani visited Napoklu on Saturday. Security measures were significantly enhanced in Napoklu and its surrounding regions. Police authorities have confirmed that the situation is now peaceful, with no further disturbances reported.

Peaceful Conduct of Hindu Sangama Event

Despite the earlier unrest, the Hindu Sangama event proceeded peacefully in the town, as per official statements. This indicates a return to normalcy in the region, with law enforcement maintaining a vigilant presence to prevent any recurrence of violence.
