Kolkata Police Investigate Social Media Harassment Case Involving Pregnant Woman

Police in Kolkata have registered a formal case following serious allegations from a 24-year-old pregnant woman. She claims her former partner sent obscene photographs and abusive messages to her husband through social media platforms. This action triggered a severe marital dispute and even threats of divorce within her family.

Details of the Alleged Harassment

According to the official complaint, the woman stated she had a relationship with the accused man when she was just 19 years old, around 2020-21. She emphasized that this relationship ended approximately three years ago. Since that time, she reported having no contact whatsoever with the former partner.

The woman eventually married a 33-year-old man. She described their family life as peaceful and harmonious until these recent disturbing communications began.

Sequence of Events Leading to Police Complaint

In her written complaint submitted to the Officer-in-Charge of Cossipore Police Station, the woman provided a detailed timeline. She alleged that on November 21 last year, her husband received an Instagram call from an unknown account. The caller reportedly identified himself as the woman's former partner. During this call, he made derogatory remarks about the woman directly to her husband.

The situation escalated further on December 14. The same individual allegedly sent what the complaint describes as "obscene photographs" of the woman to her husband. These images were transmitted through both WhatsApp and Instagram platforms. Along with the photographs, the sender included abusive comments targeting both the complainant and her husband.

Impact on Family and Police Response

The woman told police investigators that the accused has continued sending messages and images since these initial incidents. She stated this persistent harassment has caused her significant humiliation and distress. Specifically, she mentioned the communications have "hurt her modesty" as a woman.

She further explained how these actions led to escalating conflict within her home. The marital dispute became so severe that her husband began seeking a divorce. What began as private harassment has now threatened to dismantle an entire family structure.

Police investigators are currently examining all allegations thoroughly. An officer involved in the case provided a statement regarding their approach. "We are treating this case with the utmost seriousness," the officer said. "Our team will work diligently to identify and apprehend the accused individual."

The case highlights growing concerns about how social media platforms can be misused to harass individuals and disrupt families. Kolkata Police have demonstrated their commitment to addressing such digital harassment cases through formal legal channels.
