Land dispute leads to double murder in MP's Neemuch

A land dispute between two brothers in Madhya Pradesh's Neemuch district turned deadly on Wednesday, resulting in a double murder. The younger brother, Ramniwas Teli, allegedly attacked his elder brother Puranmal Teli and his family with the help of associates, using sharp weapons and chilli powder.

Incident Details

The incident occurred in Kanka village under Jawad tehsil of Neemuch. Puranmal died on the spot, while his wife Sampat Bai succumbed to injuries later at a hospital in Udaipur. Their son Jeevan and a nephew were also seriously injured and are undergoing treatment.

Background of the Dispute

According to police, the brothers had a long-standing feud over agricultural land. The dispute escalated when Ramniwas allegedly erected boundary poles inside Puranmal's field. Puranmal removed the poles, prompting Ramniwas to call him to the field on the pretext of measuring the land.

Ramniwas was waiting with several men armed with sharp weapons and sticks. They allegedly threw chilli powder into the eyes of Puranmal and his family before attacking them, the police said.

Arrests and Protests

Five of the seven named accused in the FIR have been arrested. The attack sparked furious protests from the victims' kin, who blocked the highway near Cantt police station for about an hour on Thursday, demanding the arrest of all accused. They alleged that police had dismissed their earlier complaints about the land dispute as a family matter, which could have prevented the killings.

The protesting relatives initially refused to allow post-mortem until all accused were arrested and their houses razed. However, they lifted the blockade after police assured strict action. The bodies were handed over to the family after autopsy on Thursday.
