In a shocking incident in Jamshedpur, a loco pilot was shot dead by two motorbike-borne assailants while returning home after work late Monday night. The deceased has been identified as Gyanendra Kumar Gautam, 53, a resident of Adityapur and a native of Begusarai in Bihar.
Incident Details
The incident occurred around 12:30 am near the running room close to the railway traffic colony under Bagbera police station limits. Gautam had just completed piloting a freight train from Kandra to Tatanagar railway station and was heading to the running room after handing over charge to a colleague. Locals and railway employees rushed him to Tatanagar Railway Hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival.
An FIR had not been registered at the time of filing this report. Police have detained several suspects for questioning and are scanning CCTV footage from the surroundings to identify the assailants.
Possible Motive
Superintendent of Police (City) Lalit Meena stated that apart from being a railway employee, Gautam was also involved in land brokerage. "Investigation is underway to ascertain whether any land dispute led to the murder," Meena said. "We will scan the footage of the CCTVs installed in the surroundings of the crime scene to identify the assailants."
Police Investigation
Several suspects have been detained for questioning. Officials from the Chakradharpur division of South Eastern Railways confirmed that Gautam was an employee of the local division and was posted at Tatanagar. Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Aditya Choudhary assured full cooperation with the police investigation.
The motive behind the murder is yet to be confirmed, but police are exploring all angles, including personal enmity and professional disputes. The railway community has expressed shock over the incident, with colleagues demanding swift justice.
