Lucknow Engineer's Death in Saudi Arabia Raises Questions
The body of a 26-year-old woman engineer from Lucknow arrived home from Saudi Arabia two days ago. Authorities conducted a post-mortem examination on Wednesday. The report stated that she died from asphyxia due to hanging. This finding points to a possible suicide.
Injury Marks Spark Investigation
Doctors discovered four ante-mortem injury marks on different parts of her body during the examination. These marks raised serious questions for the Chinhat police. Investigators said they could not ignore these injuries.
SHO Chinhat, Dinesh Mishra, explained their next steps. Police will first obtain a detailed medico-legal expert opinion. This opinion aims to ascertain the nature of the injuries. Experts will determine if the injuries were self-inflicted, accidental, or suggestive of assault.
"Based on the medical findings, we will also seek a legal opinion," Mishra said. The legal opinion will guide whether to proceed further with the probe. It will also specify under what legal sections to proceed.
Family Alleges Dowry Harassment
The deceased, Aiman Khan, was a BTech graduate in computer science. She worked as a software engineer. Aiman lived with her husband in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Her father, Sher Ali Khan, serves as a sub-inspector in the fire department. He accused her husband and in-laws of sustained dowry-related harassment. The family claimed disputes began soon after Aiman's marriage on April 10, 2025.
The arguments centered on the model and ownership of a car given in dowry. After moving to Saudi Arabia, the situation worsened. The family alleged that Aiman faced abuse. Her in-laws barred her from working. They also confiscated her passport.
Aiman returned to India in October 2025. She went back to Jeddah on October 19. In her last phone call on December 17, she told her family she was being denied food.
Her body reached Lucknow on Tuesday following her sudden death abroad. The case now hinges on the medico-legal and legal opinions. Police await these reports to decide the future course of investigation.
