Police in Faridabad have arrested a man for the alleged murder of his friend, a fatal stabbing that stemmed from a bitter argument over buying meat on credit at a local shop. The incident occurred in Badoli village on the night of January 1.
The Fatal Altercation and Arrest
The accused, identified as Birbal, a resident of Badoli village and a daily-wage labourer, was apprehended by a team from the BPTP police station. Acting on secret intelligence, officers tracked him to a jungle area located between Badauli village's Rakba Agra and the Gurgaon Canal. The victim, Rizwan, worked as a scrap dealer.
Investigations revealed that Birbal was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crime. Police officials stated that the dispute had its roots in an encounter two days prior to the murder. Rizwan and Birbal had met at a village meat shop where an argument erupted after Rizwan requested meat on credit. Although the shopkeeper eventually relented, the incident sowed seeds of resentment between the two men.
How a Credit Dispute Turned Deadly
The situation reached a boiling point on the evening of January 1. Rizwan returned to the same shop and again asked for meat without immediate payment. This time, the shopkeeper refused. Birbal, who was present, confronted Rizwan, accusing him of habitually taking meat without settling his dues.
"The exchange soon escalated and Rizwan allegedly abused Birbal, leading to a heated altercation," a police officer recounted. After Rizwan left the shop and had walked approximately 500 metres, a enraged Birbal picked up a knife from the meat shop, followed his friend, and stabbed him three to four times before fleeing the scene.
Police Investigation and Motive
Rizwan collapsed on the roadside and succumbed to his injuries. To piece together the sequence of events and locate the suspect, police scanned CCTV footage from the vicinity, questioned local residents, and tracked Birbal's movements.
Authorities have described the murder as the tragic escalation of a minor dispute, exacerbated by intoxication and pent-up anger. "It was a minor dispute that escalated because the accused was drunk and was holding a grudge after being abused and having verbal fights with the victim on 2 occasions," the investigating officer stated, highlighting Birbal's known addiction to alcohol.
The case underscores how personal grievances, combined with substance abuse, can lead to violent outcomes. Police have now lodged a case and the accused remains in custody as the investigation continues.
