Varanasi: Halia police in Mirzapur district on Thursday arrested a 24-year-old man for posting objectionable videos of a woman on social media after she refused to convert to his religion.
Incident Details
Mirzapur Superintendent of Police Aparna Rajat Kaushik stated that the complainant reported that Bablu Mustafa was pressuring his married sister to convert to his religion. When she refused to succumb to the pressure, Mustafa posted an objectionable video of the woman on social media.
Legal Action
Based on the complaint, a case was registered under various sections including 352 (intentional insult), 351(3) (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), relevant sections of the Information Technology Act, and the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act. An investigation was initiated promptly.
Arrest and Court Proceedings
After collecting evidence, the police team raided possible hideouts of the accused. Acting on a tip-off from informers, they arrested Bablu near Adwa Bandha. He was produced before a court and subsequently sent to jail.
This case highlights the strict enforcement of laws against unlawful conversions and cybercrimes in Uttar Pradesh. The police have urged citizens to report any such incidents immediately.
