A 15-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her brother-in-law in the Koom Kalan area of Ludhiana. The suspect was reportedly heavily intoxicated at the time of the crime and later threatened the victim to keep her silent.
Incident Details
According to the victim's complaint, she was staying with her elder sister and the accused brother-in-law in the same compound in Koom Kalan, Ludhiana. All three worked at a local factory. A few weeks ago, the suspect, under the influence of alcohol, allegedly raped the girl near Kohara, close to Bhatti Hospital. After the assault, he threatened to kill her if she disclosed the incident.
Police Response
The victim remained silent for a long time due to fear. When she later traveled to her village in Sitapur district, Uttar Pradesh, she informed her parents about the assault. Her parents immediately approached the Sadarpur police in Sitapur, who registered a zero FIR and transferred the case to the Koom Kalan police station in Ludhiana.
Surjit Singh Saini, in-charge of Katani Chowki under Koom Kalan police station, confirmed that a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. "The police are conducting a thorough investigation, and the suspect will be arrested soon," Saini said.
Legal Action
The case highlights the use of the POCSO Act, which provides for stringent punishment for sexual offences against minors. The police have assured that legal proceedings are underway and the accused will be brought to justice.
