A shocking family murder has come to light in East Delhi, where a young man walked into a police station and confessed to killing his own mother, sister, and brother. The incident, which has sent ripples through the Laxmi Nagar locality, unfolded on Monday when the accused surrendered himself.
Gruesome Details of the Crime Emerge
According to the police, the accused, identified as 25-year-old Yashbir Singh, entered the Laxmi Nagar Police Station and stated he had murdered his family. A police team immediately rushed to his rented first-floor home in a five-storey building. There, they discovered the bodies of his mother, Kavita (46), his sister, Meghna (24) who worked as lab staff, and his teenage brother, Mukul (14), a Class 7 student.
Initial investigations and the accused's confession point to a chilling modus operandi. Police said Singh, aware of his family's religious devotion, allegedly laced traditional 'prasad' laddoos with a heavy sedative (dhatura). After the family members consumed the laddoos and lost consciousness, he is suspected of strangling them with a muffler.
A Confession Driven by Desperation and Discord
During interrogation, a disturbing picture of the accused's mental state and motives emerged. Yashbir Singh had been unemployed for the past six months after working as a private driver. He was under severe financial pressure. Compounding his troubles was alleged marital discord, which led him to send his wife to her maternal home just a day before the crime. His father, a truck driver, had been living separately in Haryana for some time.
In a startling revelation, Singh told police he had taken a life insurance policy worth approximately Rs 1.5 crore. He claimed to have attempted suicide four to five times in the previous two months through staged accidents, a snake bite, and even injecting air, but failed each time. The trigger for the horrific act, as per his statement, was an argument with his mother on Sunday. He alleged that his mother confronted him, saying if he intended to end his life, he should kill the entire family first and face the consequences.
Community in Shock Over Religious Family's Fate
The brutal crime has left neighbours and local community members in a state of disbelief. Locals described the family, excluding Yashbir, as deeply religious. They frequented a Shiv Mandir located in the lane behind their house at least twice daily. The temple priest, Ashok, recalled that the younger boy, Mukul, had come to light an earthen lamp on Sunday evening, just hours before the tragedy.
"They came to the temple regularly every morning around 5 am to offer water and then in the evening to light the lamp. This was their routine for the last two years," the priest said, adding that Yashbir was rarely seen and had only visited the temple last during Janmashtmi.
A neighbour, Paras, mentioned the family was quiet and kept to themselves, and that he had been greeted by them as recently as Sunday evening. The police have stressed that the current sequence of events is based primarily on the accused's confession and requires verification. A crime team and forensic experts have inspected the scene, and the autopsy report will be crucial in confirming the exact time and cause of death.
An FIR has been registered, and multiple police teams are conducting a detailed probe to establish the complete factual matrix of this heartbreaking case.
